Ad Fatigue

Definition

The decline in ad performance that occurs when a target audience has seen the same creative too many times, resulting in falling click-through rates, rising cost per result, and diminishing returns.

Why it matters

Ad fatigue is inevitable in any sustained paid campaign. Founders who do not monitor creative frequency and refresh content regularly will see their ad spend become progressively less efficient, paying more for worse results.

Example

A founder notices her Meta ad frequency has reached 8.5, meaning her target audience has seen the ad an average of eight times. Her click-through rate has dropped by 60% and her cost per lead has tripled. She refreshes the creative with new hooks, imagery, and copy, immediately restoring performance.
