AI Hallucination
Definition
When an AI generates confident-sounding but factually incorrect information, inventing statistics, citations, people, or events that do not exist.
Why it matters
Using AI-generated content without fact-checking can damage your credibility. Hallucinations are most common with specific facts, statistics, and references. Always verify before publishing.
Example
You ask an AI to cite research supporting a marketing claim. It generates a plausible-looking academic citation, authors, journal, year. That does not exist. The paper was invented.
