Cash Flow Forecast
Definition
A week-by-week or month-by-month projection of cash coming in and going out of a business, predicting future cash positions to prevent surprises.
Why it matters
Profitable businesses fail from cash flow problems every day. A cash flow forecast shows you future cash gaps before they become crises, giving you time to act.
Example
A founder's cash flow forecast shows she will have only £800 in her account in 6 weeks despite being profitable. She delays a supplier order and chases two outstanding invoices, avoiding a cash crisis.
