Charm Pricing

Definition

The trick of ending a price just below a round number, such as £9.99 instead of £10, so it feels noticeably cheaper.

Why it matters

Charm pricing can nudge more people to buy because our brains anchor on the first digit, making £19.99 feel much closer to £19 than £20.

Example

A candle priced at £24.99 often sells better than the same candle at £25, even though the difference is a single penny.
