Co-Founder

Definition

A person who starts and builds a business alongside another founder, typically sharing equity, responsibilities, and decision-making authority from the early stages.

Why it matters

The right co-founder can multiply what you build by contributing complementary skills, sharing the emotional weight of entrepreneurship, and holding you accountable. The wrong co-founder can destroy a business faster than any external competitor.

Example

One founder brings product and tech skills while her co-founder brings marketing and sales expertise. Together they cover the full stack of building and selling, which neither could do alone as effectively.
