Companies House

Definition

The UK government registry where all limited companies must be registered and where key information (directors, accounts, shareholdings) is filed and made publicly available.

Why it matters

Every UK limited company must file at Companies House. Missing filing deadlines results in automatic fines and can lead to compulsory strike-off (closing your company).

Example

You form "MyBrand Ltd" at Companies House online in 24 hours for £12. You receive a company number, become a director, and must now file annual accounts and a confirmation statement every year.
