CPL

Cost Per Lead

Definition

The average amount you spend to generate one potential customer (lead), someone who has shown interest by giving you their details. CPL = Total spend ÷ Number of leads.

Why it matters

CPL tells you how efficiently your marketing converts strangers into prospects. A high CPL means your targeting or offer needs work.

Example

You run a Facebook ad promoting a free PDF download and spend £200. 80 people download it and join your email list. CPL = £2.50 per lead.
