Creative Commons
Definition
A set of standardised public licences that allow creators to grant specific permissions for others to use, share, adapt, or build upon their work, ranging from fully open use to more restrictive conditions.
Why it matters
Creative Commons licences provide a legal framework for sharing content intentionally without fully releasing all copyright. Founders who create educational resources, tools, or content can choose exactly what others may and may not do with their work.
Example
A founder publishes a free business planning template under a Creative Commons Attribution licence, allowing anyone to use and adapt it as long as they credit her. The licence generates significant goodwill and brand visibility as the template is shared widely, while protecting her from others selling it without permission.
