Creator Economy

Definition

The ecosystem of tools, platforms, and revenue models that enable individuals to build businesses based on their content, knowledge, personality, or skills, rather than a traditional employer relationship.

Why it matters

The creator economy has produced a new category of founder: one whose primary asset is audience and trust rather than physical product or software. Understanding creator economy principles helps any founder monetise their expertise and distribution.

Example

A former accountant becomes a financial literacy creator. She builds a YouTube channel, newsletter, and paid community. Her annual revenue from memberships, brand deals, courses, and affiliate commissions exceeds £350,000. She is a creator economy business.
