Email Open Rate
Definition
The percentage of email recipients who opened your email. Open Rate = (Emails opened ÷ Emails delivered) × 100.
Why it matters
Open rate is the first gate your email must pass through. If people do not open it, nothing else matters. A typical e-commerce average is 18-25%.
Example
You send a newsletter to 2,000 subscribers. 460 open it. Open rate = 23%. Testing a more curiosity-driven subject line might push that to 35%.
