Exit Strategy

Definition

A plan for how you will eventually leave your business, through sale, merger, passing it on, or winding it down.

Why it matters

Every founder should have an exit strategy even if they never intend to use it. Building with an exit in mind creates a more valuable, systemised, and transferable business.

Example

Building with an exit in mind: documented SOPs, clean financials, a brand not dependent on your personal face, recurring revenue. All of these increase value to a potential buyer.
