Free Returns

Definition

A policy allowing customers to return products at no cost to them, absorbing the return shipping cost as the seller.

Why it matters

Free returns reduce purchase anxiety and increase conversion rates, particularly for clothing and accessories. The cost is usually offset by higher conversion and lower cart abandonment.

Example

A fashion brand introduces free returns. Conversion rate increases by 18% because customers feel safe trying items. Net revenue increases despite higher return volumes.
