Fulfilment Centre

Definition

A third-party warehouse that stores your inventory, picks, packs, and ships orders on your behalf. Also called a 3PL (third-party logistics) provider.

Why it matters

Outsourcing fulfilment to a 3PL removes physical product storage from your home or office, enables faster shipping speeds, and lets you focus on sales and marketing rather than logistics.

Example

A founder moves her candle inventory to a UK fulfilment centre. Orders placed by 2pm ship same-day. Customer satisfaction scores increase; she reclaims 12 hours a week previously spent on packing.
