GDPR

General Data Protection Regulation

Definition

EU/UK law governing how businesses must collect, store, and use personal data. It gives individuals rights over their data and requires businesses to be transparent about data usage.

Why it matters

GDPR violations can result in fines up to 4% of global annual turnover or £17.5 million. Even small businesses must comply with the basics.

Example

GDPR compliance for a small online business: Have a Privacy Policy. Get explicit consent for email marketing. Allow unsubscribes. Don't share customer data with third parties without consent.
