GDPR Compliance
General Data Protection Regulation Compliance
Definition
Adherence to European privacy law that regulates how businesses collect, store, process, and use personal data of EU and UK residents, regardless of where the business is based.
Why it matters
GDPR fines can reach 4% of global annual turnover or 20 million euros, whichever is higher. More practically, transparent data practices build customer trust. Non-compliance is a risk that grows with your business scale.
Example
A founder running email marketing must include an unsubscribe option in every email, only market to people who have explicitly opted in, and be able to delete any subscriber's data on request. A clear privacy policy and cookie consent banner are basic compliance requirements.
