Gross Burn

Definition

The total amount of cash a company spends each month, before counting any revenue.

Why it matters

Gross burn shows your full spending, which helps you spot where costs could be trimmed to extend your runway.

Example

A startup spending £50k a month on salaries and tools has a gross burn of £50k, whatever its revenue.
