Holiday Entitlement

Definition

The legally required amount of paid holiday that UK employees are entitled to, a minimum of 5.6 weeks (28 days including bank holidays) per year for full-time workers.

Why it matters

Failing to provide correct holiday entitlement is illegal and can result in employment tribunal claims. This applies from the first day of employment.

Example

A founder hires her first employee on 1 January. By law, they are entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid holiday per year, which accrues from day one.
