Hosting

Definition

A service that runs your app or website on servers so it's accessible on the internet. Types include shared hosting (cheap, shared resources), VPS (more control), and cloud hosting (scalable, pay-as-you-go).

Why it matters

Hosting choice affects your site's speed, reliability, and cost at scale. Cheap shared hosting can crash under traffic; cloud hosting scales automatically but requires understanding.

Example

A founder hosts her Next.js app on Vercel (free tier), her database on Supabase, and her media files on Cloudflare R2, all cloud services, no server management required.
