Influencer Tiers

Definition

A classification system for social media influencers based on audience size: nano (1K to 10K), micro (10K to 100K), macro (100K to 1M), and mega or celebrity (1M plus), each with different engagement and cost profiles.

Why it matters

Bigger is not always better in influencer marketing. Nano and micro influencers often have higher engagement rates and more trusted relationships with their audiences, delivering better conversion at a fraction of the cost of mega influencers.

Example

A founder decides to partner with twenty micro-influencers in her niche rather than one macro influencer for the same budget. The micro-influencers deliver more authentic content, higher engagement, and more trackable sales.
