The practice of managing and provisioning computing infrastructure through machine-readable configuration files rather than manual processes or interactive tools, enabling infrastructure to be versioned, tested, and deployed consistently.

Infrastructure as Code eliminates manual setup errors, makes environments reproducible, and allows infrastructure changes to go through the same review process as application code. It is the foundation of reliable, scalable cloud operations.

A founder's team defines all cloud infrastructure (servers, databases, networking, storage) in Terraform configuration files. Creating an identical staging environment takes three minutes by running a single command, rather than the four hours of manual configuration it previously required.
