Intentional Business Design

Definition

The practice of consciously structuring a business around the founder's values, desired lifestyle, working style, and personal definition of success, rather than defaulting to conventional business models or scaling for its own sake.

Why it matters

Many founders build businesses that succeed by conventional metrics but leave them feeling trapped, exhausted, or unfulfilled. Intentional design ensures the business serves the founder's life, not the other way around.

Example

A founder explicitly decides she wants to work with a maximum of twenty clients per year, take eight weeks off, and earn £150,000. She designs her entire business model, pricing, and marketing around these constraints rather than growing indiscriminately. The result is a business that feels genuinely hers.
