JSON
JavaScript Object Notation
Definition
A lightweight text format for storing and transmitting structured data. It uses key-value pairs and is the universal language APIs use to send and receive data.
Why it matters
JSON is what you get when you call an API, understanding its structure lets you read API documentation, debug integrations, and work with developer tools confidently.
Example
A Stripe API response in JSON: {"id": "ch_123", "amount": 4999, "currency": "gbp", "status": "succeeded"}. A founder reads this to confirm a payment processed correctly.
