Market Opportunity

Definition

A specific gap, unmet need, or underserved segment in a market that a business can profitably address, the foundation of a business case.

Why it matters

Great execution on the wrong market opportunity leads to failure. Finding a real, sizeable market gap before building is the most important work a founder can do.

Example

A founder notices that freelancers struggle to understand contractor tax classification. No simple, affordable tool exists for them. She identifies this as a clear market opportunity.
