Marketing Mix
Definition
The set of controllable tactical marketing elements a business uses to achieve its objectives in its target market, classically defined as the 4Ps: Product, Price, Place, and Promotion.
Why it matters
The marketing mix forces founders to consider all dimensions of how a product reaches and persuades a customer, not just advertising. A misaligned mix, such as a premium product distributed through discount channels, undermines brand positioning and sales.
Example
A founder reviews her marketing mix: her Product is a premium skincare range, her Price is positioned in the luxury tier, her Place is direct-to-consumer through her own website only, and her Promotion focuses on editorial coverage and influencer gifting. Each element reinforces the luxury positioning consistently.
