Marketplace Selling
Definition
Selling products on third-party platforms, such as Amazon, Etsy, eBay, Not On The High Street, or Notonthehighstreet, where customers already go to browse.
Why it matters
Marketplaces give you access to millions of existing buyers without building your own audience. The trade-off: platform fees, fierce competition, and no customer data ownership.
Example
A handmade jewellery maker opens an Etsy shop and generates £2,000 in her first month, with no website or ad spend, simply by appearing in searches on the platform.
