Microservices
Definition
An architecture where a large application is built as a collection of small, independent services. Each handling a specific function and communicating via APIs.
Why it matters
Microservices enable teams to deploy and scale individual components independently. They're complex to manage but essential for large-scale systems where monolithic apps become bottlenecks.
Example
Instead of one giant app, a founder's platform has separate services: authentication service, payment service, email service, analytics service. Each independently deployed and scalable.
