Mission-Driven Business
Definition
A business whose strategy, decisions, and brand identity are shaped by a core social, environmental, or ethical purpose that goes beyond profit generation.
Why it matters
Mission-driven businesses attract mission-aligned customers, employees, and investors who stay more loyal and advocate more passionately than those motivated purely by transactional value. Purpose can be a genuine competitive differentiator.
Example
A founder builds a stationery brand whose mission is to employ women leaving domestic violence situations. Every purchasing decision, hiring choice, and marketing message is shaped by this mission, creating a community of loyal customers who actively champion the brand.
