Off-Page SEO

Definition

Search engine optimisation activities that occur outside your own website, primarily focused on building backlinks from other sites, social signals, and brand mentions that signal authority and trustworthiness.

Why it matters

Google treats backlinks as votes of confidence. A page that many authoritative sites link to ranks higher than equally well-written content with no external links. Off-page SEO is often the deciding factor in competitive search results.

Example

A founder publishes a data-backed industry report that gets referenced and linked to by fifteen industry blogs and two national news outlets. These backlinks boost her entire website's domain authority, lifting rankings across all her pages.
