Open Graph Tags
Definition
Snippets of code in your website's HTML that control how your pages look when shared on social media, the preview image, title, and description that appear in Facebook, LinkedIn, and WhatsApp previews.
Why it matters
Without Open Graph tags, social media generates a random, often ugly preview when someone shares your link. Optimised OG tags make shares look professional and increase click-through rates.
Example
You share a product page on Facebook. Without OG tags: a broken thumbnail and your domain URL. With OG tags: a beautiful product image, your headline, and a compelling description. CTR difference: 3×.
