Open Loop
Definition
A copywriting and storytelling technique where a question, story, or idea is introduced and deliberately left unresolved, compelling the audience to continue reading, watching, or listening to find the answer.
Why it matters
The human brain is wired to seek closure. Open loops exploit this by creating curiosity gaps that keep attention locked until the loop is closed. They are used in emails, video scripts, podcast intros, and sales pages.
Example
An email subject line reads: "The one mistake almost every new founder makes in their first 90 days." The open loop compels the reader to open the email to find out what the mistake is.
