Podcast Monetisation

Definition

The strategies used to generate revenue from a podcast, including sponsorships, listener subscriptions, premium content, live events, affiliate partnerships, and using the show as a funnel to other products or services.

Why it matters

A podcast that is not monetised is a marketing expense. A well-monetised podcast is a revenue stream that also drives growth in other parts of the business. Understanding the available monetisation levers helps founders extract maximum return from the time invested in producing audio content.

Example

A founder monetises her business podcast through a monthly sponsorship deal with a relevant software tool (£800 per month), an affiliate commission on every product she recommends with her personal link, and a "listener only" discount on her own programme that generates 30% of her coaching enrolments.
