Pre-Order
Definition
Selling a product before it is manufactured or available to ship, collecting payment now and fulfilling later.
Why it matters
Pre-orders validate demand before committing to production, generate cash flow upfront, and create buzz around a launch. They turn customers into stakeholders.
Example
You design a new print-run of your journal. Before placing a £5,000 production order, you open pre-orders at a 10% discount. 200 customers pre-order. You have £3,600 upfront and confirmed demand.
