Print on Demand

Print on Demand (POD)

Definition

A fulfilment model where products are only printed and manufactured when a customer places an order, no upfront inventory required.

Why it matters

POD eliminates inventory risk. You can sell 50 different t-shirt designs without holding a single unit in stock. Perfect for testing new products without capital.

Example

You design 10 motivational quote t-shirts, upload them to Printful, and connect it to your Shopify store. A customer orders one, Printful prints it and ships it directly. You never touch the product.
