Private Label

Definition

Selling products manufactured by a third party under your own brand name and packaging, so you own the brand but not the production.

Why it matters

Private labelling lets you launch a branded product quickly without building a factory. You control pricing and branding; the manufacturer handles production.

Example

A founder sources an unbranded vitamin supplement from a manufacturer, creates custom packaging with her brand, and sells it as her own product line.
