Process Mapping
Definition
The visual documentation of the sequential steps, decision points, and people involved in completing a business process, creating a clear picture of how work actually flows through an organisation.
Why it matters
It is impossible to improve a process you cannot see clearly. Process mapping reveals inefficiencies, bottlenecks, unnecessary steps, and handoff failures that are invisible when a process lives only in people's heads.
Example
A founder maps her client onboarding process and discovers it involves fourteen steps across four tools with three manual handoffs that each introduce 24-hour delays. After mapping, she eliminates six steps, automates two handoffs, and reduces onboarding time from a week to one day.
