Proposal

Definition

A formal document presented to a prospective client outlining the scope of work, deliverables, timeline, investment, and terms of a project or service.

Why it matters

A well-crafted proposal does most of the selling for you by showing you understand the client's problem and presenting your solution persuasively before the decision is made.

Example

A web designer sends a 6-page proposal after a discovery call: problem summary, proposed solution, deliverables, timeline, investment (£4,500), and next steps. The client signs within 24 hours.
