Public Relations
Definition
The practice of managing how a business is perceived by the public and media, through earned coverage, press releases, spokesperson training, community engagement, and reputation management.
Why it matters
Earned media, such as press coverage, podcast appearances, and journalist features, builds credibility that paid advertising cannot buy. A single strong press mention can deliver the equivalent of months of ad spend in trust and exposure.
Example
A founder pitches her story to a major business podcast, three national newspapers, and two industry-specific newsletters. Her success is featured in two of them, generating thousands of new website visitors and establishing her as a credible public figure in her field.
