Push Notification
Definition
A message sent directly to a user's phone or browser from an app or website, appearing even when the user is not actively using the product, used to re-engage, inform, or prompt action.
Why it matters
Push notifications have significantly higher open rates than email when used carefully. Overuse leads to users disabling notifications entirely, permanently losing the communication channel.
Example
A founder's fitness app sends a push notification at 7am reminding users to log their morning workout. Users who receive the notification have a 40% higher completion rate on their daily habit streaks compared to those who do not.
