Retainer
Definition
A recurring fee a client pays you each month for ongoing work or guaranteed access, rather than paying per one-off project. It gives you predictable income and gives them reliable availability.
Why it matters
Retainers turn unstable project income into steady monthly revenue, which is what makes a service business calm to run and possible to grow. One good retainer can be worth more than ten one-off jobs.
Example
Instead of quoting £600 for each batch of posts, an agency charges £2,000 a month to manage a client account end to end, billed on the 1st whether the month is busy or quiet.
