Scarcity Marketing

Definition

Using genuine limited availability to drive urgency, "only 12 left," limited edition runs, or one-time offers.

Why it matters

Scarcity triggers loss aversion, one of the strongest human biases. People are more motivated by the fear of losing something than the possibility of gaining it.

Example

You produce a limited run of 200 hand-numbered prints. The listing says "Limited edition, 200 made, 87 remaining." The product sells out in 3 days.
