Series A

Definition

A startup funding round that usually comes after seed funding, where investors put in larger sums to help a business with early traction grow and scale.

Why it matters

Raising a Series A signals that your business has proven demand and is ready to scale, but it also means giving up a meaningful chunk of ownership.

Example

After hitting £1m in annual revenue, a beauty-tech founder raises a £5m Series A to expand her team and marketing.
