Social Commerce

Definition

The integration of shopping and purchasing functionality directly within social media platforms, allowing consumers to discover, browse, and buy products without leaving the app.

Why it matters

Social commerce collapses the distance between discovery and purchase. Reducing friction at the point of inspiration dramatically increases conversion rates, especially for impulse-driven categories.

Example

A founder selling handmade candles enables Instagram Shopping on her posts. A customer who sees a candle in her stories can tap the product tag and complete a purchase without ever leaving Instagram.
