Split Testing

Definition

Testing two or more variations of a webpage, email, or ad simultaneously with different audiences to determine which version performs better, also called A/B testing.

Why it matters

Data beats opinion. Split testing removes guesswork from marketing and design decisions. Systematically testing one variable at a time compounds marginal gains into significant revenue improvements.

Example

A founder tests two homepage headlines: Version A "Award-Winning Organic Skincare" vs Version B "Finally, Skincare That Actually Works." Version B lifts conversions by 24%.
