SSL Certificate
Definition
A digital security credential that encrypts data between a visitor's browser and your website, shown as the padlock icon and "https://" in the address bar.
Why it matters
Without SSL, browsers warn users that your site is "not secure." This destroys trust, increases bounce rates, and Google penalises non-HTTPS sites in search rankings.
Example
When you visit any Shopify, Squarespace, or WordPress site and see "https://" in the address bar, the site has an SSL certificate. Most hosting providers include it free.
