Stakeholder Management

Definition

The process of identifying, communicating with, and managing the expectations of everyone who has an interest in your business, including investors, clients, staff, and suppliers.

Why it matters

Poor stakeholder management causes missed expectations, damaged relationships, and failed funding rounds. Proactive communication builds trust and prevents crises.

Example

A founder preparing to raise a seed round maps her stakeholders: 2 angel investors (monthly updates), 5 key clients (quarterly reviews), 1 supplier (payment schedule discussions).
