Strategic Partnership

Definition

A formal or informal agreement between two businesses to collaborate in a way that creates mutual benefit, often combining complementary strengths without a full merger or acquisition.

Why it matters

Strategic partnerships allow founders to access new audiences, distribution channels, or capabilities without the cost of building them from scratch. The right partnership can accelerate growth faster than any ad spend.

Example

A nutritionist partners with a fitness app to offer her meal planning programme as an add-on to their premium tier. She gains instant access to their audience; they gain a value-added feature. Both benefit without competing.
