Uptime

Definition

The percentage of time a digital product or service is operational and accessible, as opposed to experiencing outages or maintenance downtime.

Why it matters

High uptime is table stakes for any SaaS product. Downtime erodes trust, triggers SLA penalties, and can cause significant churn, especially in B2B.

Example

"99.9% uptime" means the service can only be down for about 8.7 hours per year. "Four nines" (99.99%) allows only 52.6 minutes of downtime annually.
