Vendor Lock-in

Definition

A situation where a customer becomes so dependent on one supplier that switching away is very difficult or costly.

Why it matters

Vendor lock-in can keep your customers loyal, but being locked into your own suppliers can put your business at risk.

Example

A business relies so heavily on one platform that moving its data away would be painful, a case of vendor lock-in.
